Update 11.30pm: A BBC spokesperson said in a statement to Press Association Sport: "We are obviously disappointed that we weren't able to show the conclusion of this match on BBC Two but after extending coverage for a few minutes we had to switch to the scheduled live Strictly it takes Two so we continued coverage of the snooker on the red button. I think if I was sat at home watching the last few frames I'd have probably flicked it off as well." When asked about BBC2's decision to leave the snooker, Selby jokingly said: "I'm not surprised.

It's not as bad as Eurosport who only have TV coverage for one match and expect you to cough up if you want to see the other match, at least with the BBC you have "free" access to get the other feed if you want to.On social media, critics of the BBC decision suggested the popular dancing show should have been delayed.

In an age where most TVs have some form of connection to the internet (even TV's as old as 2012/2013 will have some ability to connect to your internet service: indeed one of my old Samsung TVs has BBC iPlayer available to it, even if it keeps wanting me to update the tv software which won't happen), they don't really need to emphasise wall-to-wall coverage on the linear channels as people can access it relatively easily. They do provide some coverage to get the matches going, and those who wish to see them have access via iPlayer/BBC Sports app.

In this case, both matches tonight came in at 4-4, so you're not going to miss a match result and in any case, if the feature match on the Red Button channel ends early, they will just switch over to the other table until its conclusion. In fairness, the BBC do know exactly what matches are being played on each session, so they know that a match is rarely - if ever - going to be concluded in the second session unless one of the players has a significant lead at the end of the first. The evening sessions for the Semi Final and Final get full coverage on the main channel (ie until conclusion).
